Green Powerhouse

An NCDC windpower project fuels the Ollaberry Industrial Estate and shop, and NCDC is committed to developing renewable energy projects, as well as battling climate change in as many other ways as possible, through forestry developments, responsible crofting and more. The NCDC recycling centre ensures waste and large surplus items can be dealt with locally.

We hope to develop a major forestry centre which will be of national and international importance and we are always keen to hear from anyone with new ideas to counter climate change. The Polycrub produced by Nortenergy recycles used salmon farm pipe and offers an undercover  growing environment which is not weather dependent, supplying local fuit and veg to local communities in Shetland and throughout the world.

  • In as windy a place as Shetland, it was always natural that wind turbines should emerge as a potent source of electricity.
