The printed guide comes with the original introduction by legendary storyteller and folklorist Davy Cooper, who, more than 30 years ago, was given a summer job killing roadside weeds in Northmavine and spent six weeks wandering the highways and byways of the most northerly mainland parish of Shetland. This unorthodox introduction led to a lifetime love affair with Northmavine. As Davy says, “The place captured my heart and my imagination, and I have been roaming Northmavine ever since. ”

“This little booklet contains 72 places of interest in Northmavine, but there are so many beautiful spots that not even a full book could do justice to them all. Regard this as a taster, a small sample to start you on your own explorations. From the magnificent natural amphitheatre of the Grind O’ Da Navir to the poignancy of the deserted fishermen’s lodges at Fethaland, Northmavine offers the best of Shetland’s heritage, both natural and cultural.”

The guide has sections on Sullom, Ollaberry, Hillswick, Eshaness, Ronas Hill North Roe and Lochend, with a numbered outline map for each area corresponding to each place of interest.

In the centre of the booklet, there is a ‘Photo Pullout’ double-page spread with stunning views, as well as the flowers and birds of Northmavine. There is also a useful Information section at the end of the booklet, with details of accommodation, cafés & restaurants, community halls, garage services, guided walks, playparks, Post Offices, shops, and – most importantly – public toilets.
