The Living Well Hub has moved to the Clubroom of the Brae Hall, the entrance is on the North side of the hall.
The Living Well Hub is a place to have a face to face chat and find out about:
- Living independently
- Local groups & activities
- Support for unpaid carers
- Services who could help you and your family
- Being healthy... and more!
This week:

- Come along for a cuppa and reminisce about your sporting memories with Danny and Jack between 10am and 12 noon. They will have some old photos and resources to look at – feel free to bring along anything you have, photos, trophies etc. They will also be taking along some fun activities to help us replay and reconnect with our sporting memories! https://www.sportingmemories.uk/
- Age Scotland’s Dementia Team are visiting Shetland to kick off our CONSOLIDATE project which is a research network we are running alongside Herriot Watt University and Strathclyde University. They will be at the Hub between 10am and 12 noon. This network is looking to design/ adapt technology to support independence for people with Dementia and their family carers throughout their journey. Come along and chat to Anna to find out more about how you can get involved.
The team would also like to hear from you about what is important to you in Dementia support, what is your experience with diagnosis, Post Diagnostic Support, Self Directed Support, Transport and what would you like to see following next year’s elections.
- Voluntary Action Shetland Volunteering: For anyone interested in finding out more about the benefits of volunteering and support to find a suitable volunteering opportunity, please pop along between 10am and 2pm. We also help organisations who would like to recruit volunteers. We can offer training to volunteers and volunteer managers. Voluntary Action Shetland Volunteering also administer the Saltire and local volunteering awards. https://www.voluntaryactionshetland.com/
- Cari’s Café will be open between 11am and 1pm. She would love you to pop along to sample her food and give comments. Menu today will be Sandwiches (cheese & onion), Toasties / panini (ham & cheese), cheese scone, and butternut squash soup, card or cash payments, all made to order. There will be a small selection so first come first served!
- RNID (Royal National Institute for Deaf People) will be at the Living Well Hub between 12 noon and 130pm, this will be a free drop-in-service. No appointment needed. The friendly volunteers can help with Information on hearing loss and tinnitus, how to do a hearing check, hearing aids and how to access support and services in your area. - Wellbeing 1000 (run by Mind Your Head) between 2pm and 4pm. Are you a new parent, carer, or family member? Wellbeing 1000 provides nurturing and compassionate low-level Wellbeing Support to families with infants up to the age of 2.5 years.
Wellbeing 1000 Group North (New Group in addition to our Wellbeing Group in Lerwick)
Group for 0-2.5 year olds: Our Wellbeing Group will meet every Tuesday from 10.00-12.00 at Brae Leisure Centre from 30th September. This is an inclusive drop in group open to individuals with children aged 2.5 years and under. This is a relaxed and welcoming group led by our Wellness Practitioners where you can come and grab a hot drink and spend some time with other families.
There are no obligations at our group, just turn up!
There will be a selection of age-appropriate toys and soft play available for the children as well as themed days throughout the year. This is a pilot service, initially for 12 months.
