Wildlife Wonderland

Wildlife Wonderland

Northmavine is one of the greatest places in Shetland to see otters, seals, dolphins and whales in their natural habitat. Not to mention the fantastic variety of seabirds.

There are walks and footpaths, hides and interpretation boards too. The ponies are friendly, the sheep plentiful! Come and bring your binoculars.

Otters abound along the Hillswick Ness, and you will often hear them ‘peeping’ at night. There is nothing like the summer sound of a snipe ‘drumming’ but those who have witnessed orcas and other whales, often at extremely close quarters, will never forget the experience.

And the birds! At the time of migrations, so-called ‘twitchers make the pilgrimage to Shetland to catch glimpses of those elusive rarities, but all year round there are winged delights to witness.
