NCDC has been proud, over the past 14 years to kickstart, help with, originate and manage many projects which have benefitted the area
Apart from simple advice, we’ve organised the transfer of the wonderful Chelsea Flower show winning Shetland Crofthouse Garden to North Roe, built wind generators, organised Shetland’s biggest and most successful rock festival.
NCDC saved the Hillswick shop and now runs it as a subsidiary company. Our company Nortenergy came up with the gale-proof undercover growing shelter we call the Polycrub and has successfully produced it commercially, selling it all over the world. We have published guidebooks, look after the Weaving Shed Gallery and its associated Creator In Residence programme. We have managed the building of affordable housing and act as letting agents. We have plans for a major film festival, the regeneration of disused houses, forestry and a tourism smartphone app.
NCDC has done a lot. And we’re keen to do more.
The Polycrub is a gale-proof, hard-polycarbonate clad version of the well-known polytunnel, built using recycled salmon farm pipe. Designed and manufactured to kit form in various sizes, in Northmavine by NCDC subsidiary Nortenergy, Polycrubs are exported all over the world.
