Location

Set on a hill above Hillswick, Stobrek is a 5 minute walk to the wonderful St Magnus Bay Hotel and the Hillswick Shop & Post Office. Hillswick also houses a seal sanctuary, a gallery featuring metal work and photography, and an impressive collection of drift wood carvings prepared by a local resident artist. Find us on google maps at ZE2 9RW. Stobrek is a 10 minute drive from the Eshaness Cliffs and the Braewick Café (good cakes here). Our nearest ‘town’ is Brae - only 11 miles away and offers a number of bars and hotels, a leisure centre, an Indian take-away plus a Co-op open till 10pm.

We guess it depends on why you’re here. Just chill out and enjoy the space or be more active.

Walking – there are some tremendous walks direct from Stobrek. Maps are freely available at the cottage for your use. My favourite is to hike across the back of Stobrek down to a fabulous beach. From here, it really is up to you. Whatever walking you plan to do, bring good waterproofs, including boots – cross-country in Shetland is boggy on occasions – even in summer the hills can be wet.

Brae has some great places to eat. Our favourites are:

Busta House Hotel – fabulous food and warm environment

Mid Brae Inn – great portions (go for the lamb), and a cosy place to
be if the weather closes in

Brae Leisure Centre - If your looking for a swim, come here. For more
adventurous splashing with the kids go to the Clickimin in Lerwick, with
its flumes and ‘real rapids’ whirl pool.

Lerwick is a 45 minute drive away. Here, you’ll find 2 supermarkets and a range of independent and chain shops. There are also a wide range of places to eat and drink.
