Northmavine Up-Helly-Aa

As well as a variety of social gatherings throughout the year,
there are regular events held throughout Northmavine. The largest
of these is the annual Northmavine Up-Helly-Aa,
a spectacular Viking fire festival which celebrates the end of
winter and the return of the sun.
Big Bannock
A popular fixture on the calendar since 1999 has been the fund-raising
Big Bannock event, a fun day out
featuring the baking of the Big Bannock (scone-type local delicacy),
Merry Tiller racing and various other events.

Northmavine Sheepdog Trials
Northmavine Sheepdog Trials are held every summer. It is a competition
with a view to improving sheepdog handling in Northmavine.
Eela Competition
Annual Eela competitions are held throughout Northmavine in the
summer, usually July. (eela is Shetland for 'fishing in a
small boat')

Sales of Work
There are Sales of Work in local halls throughout the year to
fundraise for various causes. There is also usually a Craft Fair
in the Eshaness Hall.
Sunday Teas
There are regular Sunday Teas with homebakes in various local
halls throughout the spring and summer.
